Atlanta Criminal Defense Lawyer

Dan Conaway

Attorney Dan Conaway has been practicing law for the past 14 years and is a former Assistant District Attorney and a graduate of Emory University’s School of Law where he was honored for his trial advocacy skills. He regularly appears on Court TV and the Fox News Channel to give his legal commentary on high profile cases. He has also appeared on Atlanta local television news programs in relation to his representation of various clients. He is a member of both the Georgia and New York State Bars and is licensed to practice in all state and federal courts in both New York and Georgia. Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Conaway has handled over a thousand criminal cases in state and federal courts and has tried over one hundred jury and bench trials.

Mr. Conaway represents clients from all over the nation who have been charged with federal crimes in Georgia or New York. He is deeply familiar with the judges and prosecutors in these courts. The law firm has offices in Atlanta and New York to accommodate Mr. Conaway’s clients.

"The key with all state and federal criminal investigations is attacking the case early, before it ever reaches the indictment stage," explains Conaway.

"Whenever a person is being investigated for a state or federal crime, the most important step is to develop their defense immediately. Many times, the criminal investigation can be halted at the pre-indictment stage, before the client is formerly accused, arrested, or ordered to appear in court. These are the biggest victories for a criminal trial lawyer: getting the charges dismissed before there ever is a trial."

Mr. Conaway is an adjunct professor for Emory Law School’s Kessler-Eidsen Institute for Trial Advocacy, where he instructs law students in the art of case preparation and trial advocacy. Mr. Conaway also teaches ethics to first year Emory Law students through a three day round table discussion group comprised of practicing attorneys, first year law students, and Emory Law School faculty. Mr. Conaway is also a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the American Trial Lawyers Association, the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He is also a member of the International and American Bar Associations and the New York and Georgia Bar Associations. He is currently Junior Vice Chair of the Criminal Law Committee of the International Bar Association. Through these organizations, he has helped shape public opinion and legislative policy concerning state and federal criminal law.

Mr. Conaway is also the author of many articles on criminal law and he enjoys doing public speaking engagements concerning cutting edge criminal law issues. He has been selected to chair a prestigious panel of international speakers in October 2007, at the International Bar Association’s annual conference in Singapore. He has also appeared as a criminal law-expert commentator on numerous national and local television news programs including CNN’s Burden of Proof, Court TV, Headline News, The Fox 5 News Channel, and CBS 46 News Channel.
